Wastewater collection

Knowing how to respond to changing situations is an essential part of a certified operator’s job. Our associates include operators who are certified for wastewater treatment and collection and water distribution.

Facilities for handling wastewater are usually considered to have three major components or parts: collection, treatment and disposal. For a community, these parts make up the wastewater facilities; for an individual industry that handles its own wastewater, the same three components are necessary.

Collection and transportation of wastewater to the treatment plant is accomplished through a network of pipes and pumps of many sizes. These all need to be maintained by qualified operators.

Major water-using industries which contribute waste to the collection system may affect the efficiency of a wastewater treatment plant, especially if there are periods when these industrial flows are a major load to the plant. Some of these industries are required pre-treat their wastewater with sub-treatment systems before any effluent is discharged.
