Wastewater treatment
Reclaimed water
Reclaimed water is one of several forms of water conservation. Reclaimed water is highly treated wastewater – normally put back into creeks, streams and lakes – that is instead made available for a whole host of potential applications: landscaping, golf courses, or agricultural irrigation; decorative features such as fountains; cooling tower makeup; boiler feed; once-through cooling; concrete mixing; and fire main water. Treated wastewaters discharged into an irrigation system or small stream used for a domestic water supply will require considerably more treatment than wastewater discharged into water used solely for navigation.
While not suitable for drinking, reclaimed water is a safe, less expensive alternative for meeting many irrigation needs. Reuse has become an integral part of wastewater management, water resource management, and ecosystem management around the world.
Golf course irrigation
Water intensive industries like golf courses need to find alternative, innovative water sources and not rely on groundwater, potable water, or city water rights to meet their water needs. Already many golf course managers are finding the proper treatment and reuse of wastewater to be an essential part of their daily operating plan. Irrigation with renovated water is a growing area of interest at golf courses everywhere today.
