The Corix Water Systems' Moving Bed Bio-Reactor (MBR) package is based on the patented Geo-Form "high-rate" attached growth moving bed biological reactor system, a significant advancement of this proven technology. The unique Geo-Form media provides near saturation levels of oxygen without supplemental blowers and more than two times the capacity of conventional RBCs. MBR systems are particularly suited for communities where ease of operation and low power consumption is paramount. Typical applications are villages, towns, subdivisions, or construction camps. A Corix Water Systems' MBR packaged plant has the advantage of being self-contained with primary and final clarifiers as part of many packages. Larger modular units are available to treat up to 400,000 gpd (1514 m3/d) per unit.
- custom designed
- self-contained
- quiet operation
- low power consumption
- much smaller footprint
How it works
The incoming sewage first flows into a primary settling tank (clarifier) to separate the fats, oils, greases and plastics which generally float and the heavier components such as sand, dirt and other non-organics which will sink. Typically the retention time in this tank is two or more hours. From here, the clarified sewage flows into the "biozone" where one or more GEO-FORM reactors are located. Naturally occurring bacteria develop in this zone and obtain their nutrition from the organic fraction of the wastewater. Their population is directly related to the amount of "food" in the wastewater. By consuming the organics, these bacteria reduce the Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) and the ammonia in the wastewater. The wastewater then flows into the secondary clarifier, where the sloughed biomass settles out as sludge and clear effluent is removed from the surface. If necessary, the effluent can be further polished by filtration and disinfected using chlorine or UV.
Advantages and key features
- capacities of up to 76,000 gpd (288 m3/d) in one package, with multiple units available
- corrosion-free construction in either marine grade aluminum or epoxy-coated steel
- corrosion-free reactors, the GEO-FORM, is constructed of fiberglass, 304 stainless steel and plastic
- low power consumption, only 3/4 HP per reactor
- all modules are truck transportable (12 ft x 12 ft x 39 ft – 3.7 m x 3.7 m x 11.9 m maximum)
- low maintenance requirements with minimal operator involvement
- pre-assembled and pre-tested to minimize site time, and labor
Typical plant dimensions
Each of our treatment plants is custom designed to suit the specific requirements of each job. The following typical information is based on an incoming sewage strength of 240 mg/l Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5), 240mg/l Total Suspended Solids (TSS) 35mg/l ammonia (NH3-N) and a minimum temperature of 55 deg. F.
Larger capacity plants utilize the GEO-144, a 12 ft (3.7 m) diameter rotor, available in both 15 ft (4.6 m) and 25 ft (7.6 m) lengths. One of these longer rotors can treat as much as 468,300 gpd (1773 m3/d).
Additional treatment options include effluent disinfection (either UV or chlorination) and effluent filtration. We can also provide effluent discharge pumps, flow meters, turbidity monitors, control panels and other supplemental equipment.
