The Neighbourhood District Energy System at UBC
The University of British Columbia (UBC) campus is a vibrant, sustainable, and beautiful live-work-learn community designed to support an active lifestyle.
It’s no surprise that the vision required to create a complete live-work-learn community – one that includes housing, public transportation, biking infrastructure, community facilities, and cultural and recreational activities – also features a sustainable approach to utility infrastructure.
UBC’s commitment to sustainable and healthy communities is reflected in its decision to engage with Corix Utilities and invest in a Neighbourhood District Energy System (NDES). The NDES will provide cost-effective, low-carbon energy to UBC’s new residential areas.
