Utah City District Energy Utility Receives Regulatory Approval from Utah PSC

Notices

On February 2, 2026, the Utah Public Service Commission (PSC) issued an order approving a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) for Corix Utah City Heating and Cooling LLC (Corix) as a designated heat corporation. This approval authorizes Corix to provide both heating and cooling utility services in Utah under the Utah City District Energy Utility (UCDEU), with service expected to begin later in 2026.

At full buildout, the UCDEU is expected to provide heating and cooling thermal energy services to approximately 20 million square feet at Utah City, with 60 MWt of heating capacity and 80 MWt of cooling capacity.

The PSC’s approval recognizes Corix as a regulated heat corporation, extending regulatory protections to customers in Utah City, and enables the development and operation of a district energy system featuring centralized heating and cooling through shared infrastructure.
