Water Pressure Issues & Boil Water Advisory

Jul 27, 2022

UPDATE: Aug 4

The Okanagan Landing Boil Water Advisory has been lifted. Water sampling and testing has determined that water is safe to drink and use as normal.

Thanks again to all residents for their patience and understanding.

UPDATE: Jul 27, 16:30

The Okanagan Landing water system has now been pressurized and flushed. Residents may still experience trapped air and cloudy water. We recommend running cold water taps for several minutes to help clear this up.

Please note, the Boil Water Advisory is still in effect as a precautionary measure. This will be lifted once water samples have been tested and water is deemed safe by the Interior Health Authority.

Once again, thank you for your patience.

UPDATE: Jul 27, 13:30

Power has been restored to our pumping facilities. Corix operators will begin pressurizing and flushing the distribution system. Please note, even though water pressure may have returned to normal, the system is still under a Boil Water Advisory until testing has determined water is safe to drink.

We are aware of water pressure fluctuations and outages in the Okanagan Landing community. Our crews have investigated and have found the fault to be with the electrical supply from BC Hydro to our pumping facility. This prevents our pumps from maintaining adequate pressure. We're working with BC Hydro to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, whenever there are significant fluctuations in water pressure, we're obligated by the Interior Health Authority to issue a precautionary Boil Water Advisory, which is now in effect. This is due to the increased risk of sediments and contaminants entering the water supply.

We do not have a definitive timeline for when the issue will be resolved as this rests primarily with BC Hydro. The Boil Water Advisory will be lifted once pressure has been restored and testing has determined water is safe to drink as normal. Please check this News & Notices page for updates.

We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we work to maintain the safety and reliability of your water system.

Precautions During a Boil Water Advisory

bwa kettleDuring a Boil Water Advisory, tap water used for the following purposes should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute prior to use.

  • Drinking and ice cubes
  • Liquids or food (e.g. tea or soup) that will not be boiled for at least one (1) minute
  • Washing fruits and vegetables being eaten raw
  • Brushing teeth or cleaning dental and medical appliances
  • Preparing baby food and infant formula
  • Bathing infants

Adults, adolescents, and older children may shower, bathe, or wash using tap water, but should avoid swallowing water. It’s recommended to sponge bathe infants if using tap water. Tap water may be used for dishes washed by machine but add bleach to water used for dishes washed by hand. Water used for other household purposes does not need to be boiled.

This Advisory will be rescinded once the water has been demonstrated safe to drink. Please check this News & Notices page for updates.
