REVISED - Water Service Disruption and Localized Boil Water Advisory

Aug 11, 2023

UPDATE - Aug 21, 12:00

The Precautionary Boil Water Advisory issued for the River Gate community has been lifted. Testing has confirmed water remains safe to drink and use as normal. Thank you for your patience.

UPDATE - Aug 14, 17:00

The roundabout construction work was completed today and our watermain has been reconnected. There was minimal disruption to the system, so we expect customers will not experience cloudy water or air in their plumbing.

Please note, River Gate is now under a Precautionary Boil Water Advisory for at least 55 hours. We will sample at 24 and 48 hours, and after two clean samples, the notice will be lifted. Updates will be posted here and in the community.

Thank you for your patience.

A new date of Monday, August 14, from 7 AM to 5 PM, has been set for the roundabout construction project that will disrupt potable water service to Sun Rivers residents. This work is being done by a third party (not Corix).

Please collect water for drinking, cooking, and bathing prior to this time. This disruption will also affect the supply of water to the reservoir. To ensure adequate supply for all residents, we’re asking customers to use water for essential purposes only from Sunday Aug 13, 10 PM to Monday Aug 14 at 5 PM. Please refrain from watering lawns/gardens, washing clothes, vehicles, etc.

After this disruption, you may experience trapped air or discoloured water. Should this occur, try flushing your cold-water lines for 2-3 minutes. If conditions persist, please contact us.

Localized Boil Water Advisory – River Gate

Regrettably, the River Gate neighbourhood will be under a Precautionary Boil Water Advisory due to unavoidable localized depressurization of the water system. This is done when contaminants could enter the water system, but boiling will effectively remove them. We’ll work with the First Nations Health Authority to expedite testing and remove the Advisory as quickly as possible. Updates will be posted here.

Precautions During a Boil Water Advisory

During a Boil Water Advisory, tap water used for the following purposes should be brought to a rolling boil for at least one (1) minute prior to use.

  • Drinking and ice cubes
  • Liquids or food (e.g. tea or soup) that will not be boiled for at least one (1) minute
  • Washing fruits and vegetables being eaten raw
  • Brushing teeth or cleaning dental and medical appliances
  • Preparing baby food and infant formula
  • Bathing infants

Adults, adolescents, and older children may shower, bathe, or wash using tap water, but should avoid swallowing water. It’s recommended to sponge bathe infants if using tap water. Tap water may be used for dishes washed by machine but add bleach to water used for dishes washed by hand. Water used for other household purposes does not need to be boiled.

This Advisory will be rescinded once the water has been demonstrated safe to drink. Please check this News & Notices page for updates.
