Planned Power Outage - Oct 25

Oct 12, 2023

UPDATE - 16:00

Regrettably, crews will not be able to restore power until 6 PM this evening. We apologize for the inconvenience.

UPDATE

Please note, Rio Vista will not experience a full outage today, as linesmen were able to preserve power during the work. A brief power interruption may occur when re-energizing the switch at the end of the outage.

Sun Rivers will experience a community-wide power outage on Wednesday, Oct 25th, from 9 AM to 4 PM. This is a planned maintenance outage to replace aging switchgear.

A switchgear balances power demand in the distribution system, acting much like a breaker box in your home. The new switchgear will improve reliability and mitigate against outages, and is part of Corix's ongoing improvements to the power system.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate your understanding as we work to maintain essential utility infrastructure. Should you have questions, please contact Corix Customer Care.

Preparing for a Power Outage

As this is a short duration power outage, few special measures are required, however you should:

  • Plan alternate power or accommodations for persons with special needs dependent on electrical devices
  • Turn off power drawing appliances, such as stoves, heaters, and televisions
  • Don't run dishwashers and washing machines during this time
  • Don't plan activities in potentially dangerous areas, e.g. working in a shop or basement
  • Have essential battery operated devices fully charged before the outage
  • Avoid opening fridges and freezers
  • Have a flashlight or mobile phone light handy
  • After the outage, avoid drawing large amounts of power until the service has stabilized
